The 2014 festivities start early with the inaugural Lucky Dash at 10:45 a.m. About 500 runners are expected for the 5K race that begins at the vacant field at Washington and the I-696 service drive. They will compete on a flat, 1 ½-mile course that takes them north on Washington to Catalpa Avenue and then back.
At 11:30 a.m., the parade of floats, clans, step dancers, bagpipers and community groups leaves Royal Oak Middle School, 709 N. Washington, and goes south on Washington to Seventh Street.
